The interior is inspired by the opera Salome by Richard Strauss, a longtime muse of the designer. Highly articulated white walls hold the designer’s distinct work. The surfaces are a three-dimensional representation of a musical composition. Realized through six-axis robotic milling, the sonic contours were derived from the musical score. A spectrogram of the composition served as a source from which a mapping of frequency was translated into points and vectors. This provided a framework for the digitally modeled three-dimensional surface. The data was then used to robotically carve the interior surfaces. The white textured walls offer a distinct visual enclosure. The contrast of the two foam treatments and the natural raw foam, alongside robotically milled foam, offers a counterpoint that is in alignment with the philosophy of the influential designer.
