The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lowell includes the renovation and addition to an existing outdated facility. Located within close proximity to downtown Lowell, the new club will include 65,000 sq ft of space. The new design makes a strong connection with the adjacent Clemente Park and the National Historic Park Canal Parkway.
BROADWAY MIXED-USE
SANTA MONICA, CA

A pair of mixed-use buildings for Santa Monica is situated within close proximity to the expo line. The buildings provide much-needed housing and commercial space. The current zoning code is limited and as a result, similar building designs are being produced one after the other throughout the city. These buildings, named Broadway and Cloverfield are similar in scale and use but each possesses its own defining characteristics. The contrasting entities are used as an opportunity to push the design. The differences in design strategies and material choices set up an interesting dialogue between the two.
Broadway is the lighter counterpart. Smooth, slender, round columns lift the building from the ground. A lighter choice of materials is used that consists of smooth concrete, cement fiberboard and metal cladding. A vertical green wall defines the entry at the Southwest Corner of the building and is sheathed with an expanded wire mesh. A selection of light, airy landscape features complete the palette.
