The Rick Owens shop is located within one of the most desirable shopping destinations in the world, Selfridges Department Store on Oxford Street in London. Patrick Tighe worked closely with fashion designer Rick Owens and his team to create the custom environment. Extensive research went into the surface treatment inspired by the designer’s on-going interest in the raw and the tactile. The interior makes use of technologically advanced fabrication techniques and materials. Inspired by Richard Strauss’ opera, Salome, (a longtime muse of Owens), the highly articulated walls of white serve as a backdrop for the designer’s distinctive ware. The interior surfaces were a three dimensional representation of the musical composition. Realized through six-axis robotic milling, the sonic contours were derived from the musical score. The white textured walls offer a distinctive visual backdrop within the department store for the product on display. The contrast of the natural raw foam alongside the robotically milled foam offers a counterpoint that is in alignment with the philosophy of the iconic designer.
