Patrick Tighe, FAIA, FAAR

Patrick Tighe is Principal and lead designer of Patrick Tighe Architecture. The firm is committed to creating an authentic, contemporary Architecture informed by technology, sustainability and building innovation. Since its inception in 2004, a strong and diverse body of projects has been realized that includes city developed affordable housing, commercial, mixed-use projects, civic art, installations and residences.

Patrick Tighe Architecture has produced over 30 buildings within the culturally diverse communities of the greater Los Angeles area and nationwide. Projects are now in development in Morocco, China and the Middle East. Recently, the firm’s work in the Affordable Housing sector has garnered much attention, received many awards (2014 AIA / HUD Secretary Award, American Architecture Award, etc) and has been published extensively. Tighe designed a site-specific, robotically fabricated installation entitled “Out Of Memory” for the SCI-Arc Gallery. The piece, an experience at the convergence of sound, form, material, light and robotic technology was internationally recognized (2012 National AIA Award, American Architecture Award, Prague Quadriennial and Buenos Aires Biennale, Argentina). The firm also completed the US headquarters for the UK based post-production company, The Moving Picture Company in Los Angeles (2011 National AIA Award).

Patrick Tighe was awarded the prestigious Mercedes T. Bass Rome Prize in Architecture, the American Institute of Architect’s Young Architect Award and the 40 under 40 Award. Tighe is a Fellow of the American Academy and The MacDowell Colony. The work has received numerous awards including eight National AIA Honor Awards, several American Architecture Awards, a Progressive Architecture Award, Los Angeles Architecture Awards, as well as local AIA Honors. In 2011, Patrick Tighe was elevated into the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects. Tighe was one of the youngest to have received this award, the highest honor bestowed by the AIA.

Patrick Tighe received a Master of Architecture from the University of California, Los Angeles. Prior to establishing his firm, Tighe worked in the office of Frank Gehry and was an associate at Morphosis for seven years. Tighe is a Professor, Adjunct at the University of Southern California.

The work of Patrick Tighe Architecture has been published extensively and exhibited internationally. In 2013, Tighe was included in the MOCA exhibition showcasing Contemporary Architecture in Los Angeles.
