The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lowell includes the renovation and addition to an existing outdated facility. Located within close proximity to downtown Lowell, the new club will include 65,000 sq ft of space. The new design makes a strong connection with the adjacent Clemente Park and the National Historic Park Canal Parkway.
GRIFFIN
LOS ANGELES, CA

A 19,500 square foot lot situated in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles was divided into 9 separate building sites for 9 individual single-family dwellings. The small lot subdivision typology allows for greater density, enabling more housing at a more affordable cost. The severe hillside site dictated a terraced scheme solution. The homes are strategically clustered and terraced to optimize privacy within the development and to take advantage of views of Downtown Los Angeles.
The design of the homes is contextual and respects the scale and character of the neighborhood. The simplicity of the building form takes clues from the familiar gabled roof typology that is familiar to the Lincoln Heights neighborhood. The iconic imagery of the familiar is reinterpreted for the 21st century.
The three-story townhomes are 2,500 square feet each. Open plan layouts extend to outdoor spaces that are carved into the hillside. The building materials consist of cement fiberboard cladding, metal siding and smooth plaster, extruded window frames complete the composition. The building is highly sustainable, solar photovoltaics provide power for the residents, energy efficient building systems and environmentally friendly materials complement the architecture.
