Los Angeles, CA

Patrick Tighe Architecture was shortlisted for the design of Grand Avenue Parcel M in downtown Los Angeles. Developed by the Related Co, the 20-story building consists of 250 dwelling units. Retail / commercial space is present along the street, common amenities are provided for the residents at the second level and three levels of parking are provided below Grand Avenue. A series of cuts penetrate the massing of the building, each void is programmed for a specific use. One allows for light and air, another for circulation through the building and a third void is used to carve out a strong connection (in section) from Grand Avenue to Hope Street. At grade, the public spaces open to the Plaza. The outdoor urban space connects the building to the adjacent Broad Theater, the nearby Disney Concert Hall, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, MOCA and the rest of downtown Los Angeles.
